Spring cleaning is often associated with this time of the year as we clear and cleanse away the cold and slow energy of winter, resetting our living spaces and health routines for the new activity of the year to come. We love using all natural, effective and wonderfully fragrant essential oils to clean. Essential oils of sweet orange, lemon and tea tree are all great choices because they contain powerful cleansing properties that clean surfaces and remove dirt, grime and unpleasant odors without harmful chemicals.
It is important to use the proper dilution rate because essential oils are extremely concentrated and a little goes a very long way. A wise, general guideline for dilution rate of essential oils in cleaning products is 3%. So for every fluid ounce of liquid, or 2 tablespoons of dry product, add 18 drops of essential oil. You can always go lighter for a more mildly scented cleaning and it is always a good idea to perform a spot clean in an inconspicuous spot before general application.
Sweet Orange Kitchen All Purpose Cleaner
With a refreshing and uplifting scent as well as antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral properties, sweet orange essential oil has all the cleansing qualities that make a great multipurpose cleaner. Sweet orange essential oil has shown to be particularly effective at cutting through grease and grime, and as a result this cleaner works wonders in the kitchen.
Fill a 32oz. spray bottle with water followed by 2 tablespoons castille soap and 10-20 drops orange essential oil. Give it a gentle shake to mix and you're ready to safely and effectively clean a variety of surfaces.
According to studies, Lemon has been shown to brighten people's moods as well as enhance concentration. Lemon Essential Oil is our go to choice for our diffuser during the spring season. We have found lemon to be extra supportive during springtime, keeping us energized and uplifted.
On top of it's benefits for mood, diffusing lemon essential oil has been shown to cleanse the environment reducing bacteria, fungi, viruses and other impurities from the air. Try adding 5-10 drops of lemon to your diffuser to experience the benefits.
Tea Tree for Mold and Mildew
Australian Tea Tree is a powerfully medicinal essential oil, offering antibacterial, antiseptic and antifungal properties. It works especially well to rid the home of mold and mildew. Simply mix 10-20 drops of tea tree essential oil into a 32oz. spray bottle filled with water. Shake and then spray onto moldy or mildewy areas, like bathroom sinks and showers. Let it work away at mildew and mold and allow it to completely dry. You can also use this spray anywhere that has a damp, musty smell.
Tea tree will add a crisp, fresh smell to your cleaning products. Add a few drops to a bucket of soapy water before you mop your floor to permeate its purifying scent and cleansing attributes throughout your home.
With all the new activity of spring, don't forget to drink lots of water and take time to replenish your body with vitamins and minerals from healthy whole foods and supplements. We also like to invite in the new energies of spring into our home by opening the windows and letting in the cool and refreshing air. Be sure to collect some of the new flowers blooming around your neighborhood and display them in your home for even more colorful spring cheer!
