Cypress essential oil is distilled from the leaves and twigs of the evergreen, Cupressus sempervirens. It is produced in France from plant material that is customarily pruned off of the trees before the windy winter season. The aroma of cypress is sweet and almost balsamic with similarities to pine need oil, and cool hints of juniper berry and mint. The soft sweetness of cypress is quite tenacious and carries into the unique amber-like dryout.
Cypress oil is high in monoterpenes making it very useful for aromatherapy applications. Try diffusing cypress essential oil, it is decongestant and will purify the air with its antiseptic and antibacterial properties. Cypress is also a beneficial addition to a sport massage oil for sore muscles. It has analgesic properties to relieve pain, getting deep into sore muscles, ligaments and tendons. Rely on cypress oil for support during times of major transition, moving or loss.
Used in perfumery to modify amber, citrus and pine needle fragrances, fougeres or chypres. Cypress essential oil blends fantastically with labdanum, lavender, red mandarin, juniper, pine, clary sage, sandalwood, ambrette, styrax and vanilla.
